Grind

Grind your material as finely as possible. This will help ensure complete, consistent extraction, without any chunky bits that need to be broken up halfway through.

Turning your regular three or four piece grinder upside down can result in a finder, powdery grind. A two-piece grinder works well too, just give it a little more time than you usually do.

If you have access to a grater style grinder, or a fine grinder like the Magic Flight Finishing Grinder or New Vape’s Fine Grinder those should do the trick.

Pack

The PAX 2 works best tightly packed, helping the heat spread throughout the bowl. You can use the lid to firmly tamp down the contents of the oven.

Smaller loads still need to be tightly packed for best performance. If you find yourself doing half packs regularly, consider picking up the PAX Pusher from New Vape or the Half-Pack Oven Lid from PAX to get good results without loading all the way up.

Draw

Like most conduction vaporizers, pulling too hard will overwhelm the heater, and your vapor will be wispy. A gentle, cigar-like draw is best to start, and as you get a feel for it, you can settle into longer, lighter draws.

New Vape has also created an oven lid with holes drilled into it for better airflow, for those that can’t stand restrictive draws. It increases the air flow by about 30%, but the vapor thickness suffers.

Should I stir?

The PAX 2 will heat your herbs evenly without stirring. I’ve found a tiny amount of color left in the material that is in direct contact with the oven door, but it’s not enough to warrant stirring midway through.

Flip it!

If your herbs are sticky and packed tightly enough, they'll form a puck in the oven that sticks together. Flip the puck out on your palm, and put it back in upside down to ensure you evenly cook both sides.
