Boundless CFC 2.0 First Look: Bigger, Better, Still Budget-Friendly

The release of the Boundless CFC 2.0 is around the corner, and you might be wondering what new functionality they pack into its slightly larger body. This sequel keeps all the important points of the original, including full digital temperature control, a pocketable form factor, and appealing $80 price point. The CFC 2.0 fixes the overheating and cracking issues by adding some extra buffer around oven. Yes, it’s a tiny bit bigger, but it’s definitely better.

Fast facts:

Very portable, still durable

At just over five inches tall and one inch in diameter, the Boundless CFC 2.0 vaporizer isn’t very imposing. The outside coating feels different from other Boundless vapes, and didn’t dissolve when sprayed with isopropyl alcohol. The mouthpiece stayed cool during our initial tests, with only the area around the oven getting slightly hot during high temperature use -- all improvements over the original.

Super fast heat up

This is one of the fastest-heating conduction vapes we’ve tested, clocking in at 25 seconds to 390F. It’s so fast that we wish it had haptic feedback to let us know when it’s ready, so we don’t miss it.

Decent vapor

At just $80, we don’t expect the CFC 2.0 to work any miracles. It pumps out predictably decent vapor, with some flavor below 400F, and less impressive output at higher temperatures. Like other Boundless vapes, the CFC 2.0 forsakes a little bit of comfort for clouds - sessions are thick, with a little bite on the back of the throat. The included water pipe adapter is a nice touch for taming the vapor with a bubbler, but you’ll have to pull really slowly or the CFC 2.0 can’t keep up.

Impressive oven for dry herbs

The CFC 2.0 has an over-sized oven, holding 0.3 grams fully packed, but it also vapes well with just a sprinkling of herbs in the chamber. The herbs come out fully cooked without stirring, and the wide lip on the top of the oven makes it really easy to load. It won’t come with accessories to vape extracts, so you’ll have to get creative if you want to use gooey stuff.

Solid battery life

The CFC 2.0 comes with an internal battery that Boundless claims charges in around three hours and lasts for 12-14 sessions at 390F. We have more detailed battery specs in our full Boundless CFC 2.0 review, but initially we got around 8 - 10 sessions using higher temperatures than that. We don’t expect battery life to be an issue with this vape.

Bigger body, better beast

The Boundless CFC 2.0 is bigger and heavier than the original, but for good reason. It boasts a more comfortable shape and feel that doesn’t get as hot at the oven, and a more durable coating for the outside. The mouthpiece has also been redesigned to have less contact with the hot air stream, hopefully ending the days of replacing cracked mouthpieces -- an issue for the original CFC.

Who is the CFC 2.0 for?

Boundless’ CFC 2.0 is for anyone who was drawn to the original CFC vaporizer, but were concerned with some design flaws. At $80 it’s still one of the least expensive, pocketable vapes with digital temperature controls, and the clouds won’t disappoint either. The redesigned shape and mouthpiece appear to have fixed the failures of the original, and we might finally have what that unit promised -- a great combination of size, features and price.
